BLACKLIGHT
Keld Helmer-Petersen
The danish photographer Keld Helmer-Petersen spent most of his life being an archeological photographer. He started creating work in colour, and after the craze and fame, he began creating images in black and white, exploring the effect that a severe lack of colour and mid tones could have on an image. These high contrasts and sharp tones really make whoever views his images take in what they are looking at and consider it's meaning, focusing on the space around the image and what shapes and pattern these pictures contain.
Keld Helmer-Petersen was heavily inspired by constructivist photographers and the fascination of architectural design and constructions, which is explicitly shown in his work with images containing cranes, scaffolding and machinery.
